Chocolate Company Lofts.

The old Patterson Candy plant across from Trinity Bellwoods, converted by Plazacorp in 2005 with a new wing attached — hard lofts and soft lofts under one roof.

(01)The building

What it actually is.

Patterson Candy built a plant at Queen and Massey in 1912 and made chocolate there into the late 1950s. Plazacorp converted the site in 2005, linking the historic buildings with a new six-storey addition, for a total of 146 units.

That gives you a genuine choice inside one corporation. The heritage sections have twelve-foot wood or corrugated metal ceilings, wooden posts, steel beams, exposed brick and enormous windows. The new section has roughly ten-and-a-half-foot concrete ceilings, concrete columns and floor-to-ceiling glass. Same address, same fees structure, completely different living experience.

Trinity Bellwoods is directly across the street — thirty-seven acres, a rec centre with two pools, the farmers' market, and in summer, a lot of people enjoying all of it right outside your window.

(02)Honestly

What I like, and what I'd check.

No building is all upside. These are the things I'd raise with you standing in the lobby.

What I like

  • Hard and soft lofts in one building, so you can compare the two properly in an afternoon.
  • Trinity Bellwoods across the road, which is as good as urban green space gets in Toronto.
  • Concierge, fitness and party rooms — a fuller amenity set than most conversions.
  • Twelve-foot ceilings and original beams in the heritage stacks.

What I'd check

  • Confirm which section a unit sits in before you get attached to a price comparison.
  • Park-side and Queen Street noise peaks on summer weekends — visit then, not on a Tuesday morning.
  • Windows in the older sections are older; ask about the replacement schedule.
  • Parking is limited relative to unit count.

(03)Next step

Ask me about Chocolate Company.

Tell me what you're after and I'll come back with what's actually available at Chocolate Company Lofts right now, what sold or leased there recently, and the buildings nearby worth seeing on the same afternoon.

I reply to everything, usually same day.
