What it actually is.
43 Hanna started as a paper factory and spent half a century as the Irwin Toy plant, Canada's best-known toy company. Lanterra Developments and Quadrangle Architects converted it in 2008 into 213 units across seven floors, combining three connected structures into one building.
What makes it unusual is the mix. The original floors are true hard lofts — Douglas fir posts, exposed steel beams, thick brick walls, warehouse glazing. The upper floors added during the conversion are closer to soft lofts, with exposed concrete, taller volumes in places and private terraces on the best of them.
It is also the rare conversion with a full amenity list: concierge, fitness and steam rooms, meeting and business space, guest suites, and a coffee shop in the building. Everything else in Liberty Village is new construction dressed up in loft language. This is the actual factory.

What I like, and what I'd check.
No building is all upside. These are the things I'd raise with you standing in the lobby.
What I like
- A real conversion in a neighbourhood otherwise full of new-build soft lofts.
- Original brick, Douglas fir posts and steel beams retained through most of the building.
- Amenities you don't normally get in a conversion — gym, steam room, guest suites, concierge.
- Terraces on the upper suites, some of them very large.
What I'd check
- It prices at a premium over the soft lofts around it. That gap is the point, but decide if it's your point.
- Some suites face interior courts and get much less light than the perimeter stacks.
- Open plans and hard surfaces carry sound between levels within a unit.
- Liberty Village traffic and transit at rush hour are a genuine daily consideration.
